Derek Boyd is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His research integrates biological anthropology with public health and epidemiology to address questions about life, health, and death in archaeological and forensic contexts.

His work focuses on skeletal variation, respiratory health, trauma treatment access, and injury recidivism in industrializing England (AD 1700–1857) through an intersectional lens. He also contributes to national and international collaborative projects in bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology.
As a practicing forensic anthropologist, Boyd consults for the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner in Las Vegas, NV, and has trained at institutions including the University of Tennessee-Knoxville's Forensic Anthropology Center and the U.S. Department of Defense. His lab, the Human Health and Skeletal Biology Laboratory, serves as a hub for his research initiatives.
