Denny Collie

Denny Collie is a Lecturer in Creative Enterprise within the Media, Communication and Performing Arts Division at Queen Margaret University (QMU). He has held this position since transitioning from a visiting lecturer role since 1996. Currently, he teaches on three programs: Drama and Performance undergraduate, Film and Media undergraduate, and the MA Culture and Creative Enterprise. He is a member of QMU’s Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Advisory Group, actively involved in developing the on-campus QMU Startup Studio, which supports creative students in launching ventures. His work includes implementing QMU’s Entrepreneurship Action Plan and fostering knowledge exchange activities.

Collie holds a BA (Hons) and a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip). His research interests focus on entrepreneurship within the creative sector and the application of social media by micro businesses. He also brings over two decades of entrepreneurial experience, having founded ventures such as DCA Scotland (a data management company), an eCard marketing platform, and retail establishments. These businesses employed QMU graduates, reflecting his commitment to graduate employability.

In teaching, he emphasizes entrepreneurship, employability, client project management, and reflective learning practices tailored to the creative industries. His career also includes roles as a careers adviser, providing guidance to diverse groups in Lothian Regional Council.
