Dennis Vitkup

Dennis Vitkup is an Associate Professor at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Informatics and the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at Columbia University.

His research focuses on developing and applying probabilistic techniques to analyze cellular networks, connecting network structure to function and phenotypes. Key areas include:

• Global probabilistic reconstruction of metabolic networks (e.g., GLOBUS method)
• Identifying human disease genes and genetic modules (e.g., NETBAG method)
• Integrating mechanistic and probabilistic approaches for biological pathway simulations

His work has led to experimental predictions for malaria drug design and insights into cancer metabolism, as well as network perturbations in autism and schizophrenia.

He is affiliated with the Health Analytics Center and leads the Vitkup Lab, which specializes in computational systems biology and network-based biomedical research.
