Dennis Ritter is an Assistant Professor of Art at Berry College, specializing in ceramics and sculpture. He holds an MFA from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and a BFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. His work explores the role of common objects in shaping identity and memory through installations, sculptures, and photography rooted in ceramic processes. He emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, integrating community arts projects into his teaching.
Research interests include the intersection of personal myth and cultural identity, using clay to blur boundaries between art, technology, and memory. His installations, such as The Melancholy of Objects and Index and Context inHabituation, investigate how objects and their arrangements evoke collective and individual narratives. Exhibitions include MOCA Georgia, The Wassaic Project, and Kennedy Museum of Art.
Ritter’s pedagogical approach prioritizes community engagement, having taught at Temple University, Alfred University, and Louisiana State University, alongside extensive work with Philadelphia’s The Clay Studio. His art and teaching focus on materiality’s role in critical thinking and cultural storytelling.
