Dennis Dworkin is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Nevada, Reno. His academic specialization lies in intellectual history focusing on Britain, Ireland, and Europe, with particular emphasis on cultural theory and nationalism studies. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago (1990). His current research includes a book project on Stuart Hall, a Jamaican-British cultural theorist, to be published by Duke University Press.
Key research interests include British history, European intellectual history, cultural theory, modern Jewish history, and modern Italian history. He teaches advanced courses on British imperialism, European intellectual history, and contemporary British identity. Notable publications include The Making of Modern Ireland (2012), translations of Marxist texts like Class Struggles, and foundational works on cultural studies such as Cultural Marxism in Postwar Britain (1997).
His work bridges historical scholarship with cultural critique, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to nationalism and postcolonial theory. Courses taught include HIST 393/394 on the British Empire, HIST 427 on European intellectual history, and capstone courses on modern Ireland.
Dr. Dworkin has edited special journal issues and co-edited volumes on topics ranging from Raymond Williams to postnationalism. His research consistently explores intersections between political movements and intellectual traditions across the 19th and 20th centuries.
