Dr. David Karr is a Professor and Chair of Humanities at Columbia College, affiliated with the School of Arts & Sciences. Since joining in 2007, he teaches core European, Middle Eastern, and world history courses at the Day campus, blending student-driven discussions of primary/secondary sources, art, and music with traditional lectures.

Dr. Karr’s research centers on British radicalism, the British-Australian criminal transportation system, and the politics of 18th-century British theater, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with historical narratives and cultural contexts. His teaching spans chronologically and geographically diverse topics, including courses on the European Enlightenment, post-1945 global history, and modern Britain.
