Dennis Carlberg

Dennis Carlberg is an Affiliated Faculty member of the Boston University (BU) Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) and serves as BU's Chief Sustainability Officer and Associate Vice President for Climate Action. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth & Environment and faculty/advisor for the Earth House living-learning community. With over 25 years of experience, Carlberg has held leadership roles in sustainable design, including as a principal at Arrowstreet architectural firm and researcher at the National Renewable Energy Lab. His expertise spans daylighting research, energy-efficient building design, and climate resilience.

• BA in Architecture, University of California, Berkeley

Research & Leadership: Carlberg co-chairs the Boston Green Ribbon Commission Higher Ed Working Group Executive Committee and chairs BU’s Sustainability Subcommittee of the Antiracism Working Group. He founded ULI Boston’s Climate Resilience Committee and advises on climate strategies for cities, states, and national organizations. His work integrates sustainability with antiracism initiatives and urban policy, as reflected in BU’s Strategic Plan and Climate Action Plan.

Grants & Teams: Leads BU’s Sustainable Operations strategy, advises City Planning and Urban Affairs, and collaborates with the University Climate Change Coalition. He actively participates in technical advisory groups for Boston, Massachusetts, and national sustainability initiatives.
