Deniz Duruiz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. Her research examines the intersections of migration, political violence, and racial capitalism in Turkey, with a focus on Kurdish migrant workers and Syrian refugees.
- PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University
- Graduate degrees in Sociology and Anthropology
Her scholarship combines ethnographic fieldwork in Northern Kurdistan and rural Turkey with comparative analyses of refugee experiences in France and Canada. She has expertise in labor regimes, affect theory, and decolonizing methodologies.
Duruiz is the creator and host of the Keyman Podcast and co-organizer of the Colloquium on Refugees, Migrants and Statelessness at Northwestern University. Her publications analyze racialization processes, gendered dimensions of migration, and historical colonial frameworks in the Kurdish context.
