Denise Kingston

Dr. Denise Kingston is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at the University of Sussex, School of Education and Social Work. As course leader for the BA Primary and Early Years Education programs, she specializes in evidence-based professional development for early childhood education and care (ECEC), with a focus on the SSTEW Scale (Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Wellbeing). Her research spans international collaborations in Australia, Wales, and Scotland, evaluating quality improvement frameworks and pedagogical strategies.

Her publications highlight advancements in ECEC quality assessment, regulatory frameworks, and the impact of professional development on child outcomes. She has led studies like the Researching Effective Early Learning (REEL) and Fostering Effective Early Learning (FEEL) projects, funded by Australian and New South Wales governmental bodies.
