Denise Khor is an Associate Professor of Asian American Studies and Visual Studies at Northeastern University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Art + Design and a courtesy appointment in History. She serves as Associate Director of Asian American Studies. Her research focuses on film and media history, early cinema, and critical ethnic studies, emphasizing transpacific networks and Asian American experiences. Khor holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego, and a B.A. from the University of Florida.
Her 2022 book Transpacific Convergences redefines Japanese American film culture pre-WWII. Current projects include The Invisible Hand: A History of Asian Americans in the Animation Industry. She has held a Harvard Charles Warren Center fellowship (2019-2020) and published in Film Quarterly and Pacific Historical Review. Affiliated with Communication & Media, Screen Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, her work bridges historical analysis and contemporary cultural critique.
