Denise Inman, PhD is an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the UNT System College of Pharmacy, University of North Texas Health Science Center. Her laboratory focuses on glaucoma mechanisms, particularly the interaction between neurons and glial cells during neurodegeneration. Key research topics include metabolic dysfunction, mitochondrial dysfunction, and energy substrate transfer in glaucoma pathogenesis.
Education:
- BS in Biology, Drexel University
- PhD in Neuroscience, University of Virginia
Research Interests:
- Neurodegeneration mechanisms
- Glaucoma pathogenesis
- Metabolism and mitochondrial biology
- Therapeutic development for optic nerve protection
Funding: Active NIH grants include projects on optic nerve metabolic changes and metabolic vulnerability in glaucoma. Recent grants total 13 sponsored projects with funding from agencies like the National Eye Institute.
Publications: Over 49 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work focusing on transcorneal electrical stimulation, Sigma-2 modulators, and metabolic interventions in glaucoma. Research spans mouse models, retinal ganglion cells, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Inman Lab, investigating glaucoma mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Collaborates on projects involving retinal ganglion cells and optic nerve metabolism.
