Dr. Denise Galloway is a Professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center with appointments in the Human Biology and Public Health Sciences Divisions. She holds the Paul Stephanus Memorial Endowed Chair and serves as Scientific Director of the Pathogen-Associated Malignancies Integrated Research Center. Her research focuses on oncogenic viruses including HPV and Merkel cell polyomavirus, with contributions to vaccine development and cancer detection methods.
Research interests center on viral carcinogenesis mechanisms, immune responses to infection/vaccination, and biomarker development for cancer detection. Her work examines how HPV disrupts DNA repair pathways and induces genomic instability, and investigates minimal effective vaccine dosing.
The Galloway Lab employs molecular biology and immunology techniques to study viral oncology, with recent publications addressing electron transport in colloids (2024), rheology of carbon suspensions (2023), and HPV vaccine optimization (2018).
Awards include the endowed chair position. Dr. Galloway advises PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in virology and immunology, leading a research group focused on pathogen-associated malignancies.
