Denis Gerner is a Research Associate in the Department of German Studies at the University of Siegen, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He is a core member of the CoSoDi (Socio- and Discourse Linguistics) research team and contributes to the Discourse Monitor project, focusing on political and strategic communication, argumentation analysis, and the linguistic construction of social space.
His research centers on discourses of transformation, structural change, and deindustrialization, particularly how language shapes public understanding of societal shifts. Key interests include critical discourse analysis, political rhetoric, digital media communication, and participatory discourse. He investigates how argumentation patterns and interpretive struggles are embedded in spatial and societal narratives.
His recent publications analyze strategic communication in public discourses, including non-apologies, analogy topos, and ecological transformation debates. These works reflect a trend toward dissecting manipulative and ideological communication strategies in contemporary politics and environmental debates.

He has contributed to edited volumes including the Glossary of Strategic Communication (Volumes 1 and 2) and Politicization of Everyday Life. His doctoral project explores the interplay of language, space, and discourse in narratives of factory closures and structural change.
He is involved in knowledge transfer initiatives and public engagement through collaborative projects and workshops, aiming to strengthen emancipatory and democratic communication practices in society.
