Denis Duboule serves as Professor of Developmental Genetics and Genomics at both the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Department of Genetics and Evolution at the University of Geneva, positions he has held since 2001. He also directs the Swiss National Research Center 'Frontiers in Genetics', demonstrating his leadership in genetic research.
His research encompasses:
- Function and regulation of Hox genes
- Vertebrate developmental genetics
- Medical genetics
- Evolutionary biology
Professor Duboule's work shows consistent focus on developmental mechanisms and genetic regulation across evolutionary timescales, with particular emphasis on the Hox gene clusters that determine body patterning in vertebrates.
His exceptional contributions to science are reflected in numerous prestigious honors:
- Elected member of EMBO (1993)
- National Latsis Prize (1994)
- Cloëtta Prize for Medicine (1997)
- Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine (1998)
- Marcel Benoist Prize (2003)
- Grand Prix Charles Leopold Mayer (2004)
- INSERM International Prize (2010)
- Foreign Member of the Royal Society (2012)
- Knight of the Legion of Honour (2013)
- Kowalevsky Medal (2014)
He maintains active research laboratories at both EPFL (http://duboule-lab.epfl.ch) and the University of Geneva, with his work continuing to influence developmental biology and genetics fields globally.
