Delphine Sirks

Delphine Sirks is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the departments of Legal Theory and Legal History, Kooijmans Institute, and Law, Markets and Behavior. Her work focuses on insurance law history, particularly marine, life, and fire insurance in early modern Europe. She holds a PhD in Legal History (2021) and teaches courses on legal theory, legal history, and professional legal skills.

Her research explores 17th-18th century legal frameworks governing insurance, comparative law approaches to insurer liability, and historical developments in risk management systems. Notable outputs include a 2022 comparative study on wrongful claims handling and a 2021 monograph analyzing Dutch Republic insurance practices.
