Deirdre 'Dede' Maitre is a Senior Lecturer and resident filmmaker in the Program in Film & Media Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. She holds an MFA in Film & Media Arts from Temple University with specialization in narrative and documentary filmmaking. Her work has been featured in prestigious international film festivals including New Directors/New Films (MoMA and Lincoln Center), LA Film Festival, and Berlin Short Film Festival, receiving critical acclaim from publications like IndieWire and The Hollywood Reporter.
Her research focuses on narrative techniques and documentary storytelling methodologies. With over 10 years of university-level teaching experience, she develops innovative pedagogical approaches in film education. In 2024, she was recognized with a Teaching Innovation Award for her contributions to film education.
