Dr. Deirdre Feeney is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Art at UniSA Creative, University of South Australia. Her research explores the materiality of image-making, optical systems, and media archaeology, collaborating across STEM fields like Physics and Engineering. She holds a background in glass-making and projected moving image, developing hybrid systems that blend historical and modern technologies. Notably, she was an ANAT Synapse Residency recipient (2020) and conducted research at the Australian National University and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. Her works have been exhibited globally, including in Australia, Denmark, and the USA.
Her teaching and supervision focus on industry-ready professionals and cross-disciplinary research. Collaborations include projects with ANU, the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, and ANAT. Recent creative works like Hallway (2024) and The Hidden Image Life of Lenses (2024) exemplify her exploration of optical mechanics and materiality.
