David Lancaster is a Professor and EOS Chair in Laser Physics at the University of South Australia (UniSA), affiliated with UniSA STEM. His research focuses on advanced optical technologies, including laser physics, photonics, and optofluidic biosensors. He leads projects in waveguide fabrication, mid-infrared optics, and sensor development for biomedical and environmental applications.
Key research interests include ultrafast laser processing of optical materials, integrated optics, and fiber-based sensing systems. Notable achievements include high-index waveguides in fluoride glass and deep learning-enhanced fiber sensors for respiration monitoring. He collaborates widely, with recent work published in Optics Express, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, and Journal of Lightwave Technology.
Lancaster supervises research students and holds grants such as ARC FT200100590 (2020). His lab, the Laser Physics and Photonics Devices Lab, develops innovative optical devices and sensors, contributing to fields like medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
