Dr. Dee Scadden is a Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the School of the Biological Sciences (SBS). Her work focuses on teaching innovation, digital learning, and RNA editing mechanisms in cellular stress responses. She has pioneered online teaching resources, including animated films and inclusive learning strategies, and led the implementation of Inspera Assessment for exams. Her research investigates the role of hyper-edited dsRNA in mammalian cells, particularly its interaction with stress granules and effects on gene expression.
Research Interests: RNA Editing, Stress Responses, Molecular Biology. Her studies explore how adenosine-to-inosine editing by ADAR proteins impacts dsRNA structure and function, with implications for cellular stress and disease. She has also contributed to understanding Z-DNA-binding proteins in stress granules.
Awards:
- Pilkington Teaching Prize (2021)
- Technology Enabled Learning Prize in STEM (2019)
- Biochemical Society Teaching Excellence Award (2017)
Teaching & Innovation: Developed online practical sessions, animated educational content, and Universal Design for Learning frameworks. Collaborated on pandemic-era teaching adaptations and digital exam platforms.
