Dr. Debra L. Murphy is a Professor of Psychology at Huston-Tillotson University (HT). She serves as project director and principal investigator for the HT Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department’s Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Putting Prevention to Work Subrecipient Grant Award. She teaches psychology courses including statistics, research methods, and program evaluation, and edits HT’s inaugural research journal.
Her research focuses on eradicating racial health disparities through initiatives in HIV/AIDS prevention, substance abuse, tobacco control, violence prevention, eHealth, and mental health. She specializes in community-based interventions for underserved populations, with projects like student peer HIV/AIDS educators and tobacco-free initiatives serving as institutional models.
