Deborah Jones is a Senior Lecturer in Education at Brunel University, affiliated with the School of Sport and Education. She holds a Doctorate in Education, an MA in Linguistics in Education, a PGCE in Urban Education, and a BA (hons) in Philosophy.
Her research focuses on gender dynamics in education, teacher and headteacher identities, and oracy in primary education. Key projects include 'Enhancing Mathematical Learning through Talk' and UKLA-funded studies on teacher-child interaction. She has led the Doctor of Education programme and served as Director of Teaching and Learning at Brunel University.
Her publications span topics like gender and power in early years education, metacognitive approaches to oracy, and narratives of educational leadership. She has contributed to journals and authored books such as Men in the Lives of Young Children and Metacognitive Approaches to Developing Oracy.
Deborah currently supervises 8 PhD students and has held editorial roles, including European Editor for Early Child Development and Care. She is actively involved in academic organizations like AERA, BERA, and NATE, and has led institutional initiatives on equality and professional development.
