Deborah Jones is a Professor in Criminology at Swansea University's School of Social Sciences, currently serving as Interim Head of the School. She holds a Senior Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy and has extensive leadership experience in higher education. Prior to academia, she was a Metropolitan Police Officer specializing in major crimes and child protection. Her research focuses on sex industry regulation, higher education's role in offender desistance, and innovative methodologies. She co-directs the Consortium for Sexuality Studies with Professor Tracey Sagar and leads projects like the Student Sex Work Project (TSSWP), which explores sex work among university students. Jones has secured over £500,000 in research funding, including grants from the Big Lottery and Welsh Government. She advises organizations such as the Cardiff Sex Worker Forum and serves on external academic boards, including Liverpool Hope University and the Open University. Her work emphasizes bridging academic research with public education and policy reform.
