Deborah J. Yashar is Donald E. Stokes Professor of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, Director of PIIRS, and leading scholar of democratization, ethnic politics, and violence in Latin America.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Political Science, UC Berkeley
Research: Analyzes state formation, social movements, and violence in developing societies, with award-winning books on indigenous citizenship and homicidal ecologies in Latin America.
Awards:
- Fellow, American Academy of Arts and Sciences
- APSA Best Book Award for Homicidal Ecologies
- Whitehead Prize, London Mathematical Society
Leadership: Former editor of World Politics; co-chaired SSRC Anxieties of Democracy project.
