Deborah J. Danuser is a Teaching Assistant Professor and doctoral candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of Pittsburgh, with a secondary affiliation in the Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies (GSWS) program. She holds three degrees from the University of North Dakota: a B.A., B.S., and M.A. Her research explores how popular culture, particularly television commercials and campaigns, shapes public perceptions of science and promotes inclusivity for underrepresented groups like women and people of color. She is currently completing her dissertation, “Evoking and Embodying Science: Representing Science and Social Differences in Early 21st Century Television Commercials.”
As an award-winning educator, Danuser teaches courses such as Introduction to Communication, Mass Communication, and Public Speaking. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes practical application of communication concepts. She previously worked in public relations in Washington, D.C., designing award-winning campaigns for nonprofits, corporations, and government entities.
Her research interests include science communication, cultural studies, and the intersection of gender/sexuality with STEM representation. She has presented at numerous conferences, including the AEJMC and NCA, and has been recognized with prestigious awards for teaching and leadership.
