Frayda Cohen is a Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) at the University of Pittsburgh. She also serves as the Director of the Pittsburgh Consortium for Adoption Studies (PCAS) and Undergraduate Advisor for GSWS. Her roles include advising students and overseeing study abroad programs, such as Pitt in China and a summer program in Italy focusing on gender, sustainability, and food.
Education:

- BA in International Studies, New York University
Research Interests: Cohen’s work explores children, gender, adoption, transnationalism, and food studies. She has conducted extensive research in China, examining cultural, social, and political dimensions of family formation and transnational kinship. Her teaching focuses on global feminisms, gendered bodies, and the politics of food.
Teaching & Programs: She teaches courses like Introduction to Feminist Theory, Gender and the Politics of Food, and the GSWS Capstone. Her programs emphasize critical thinking and writing skills to prepare students for diverse global contexts.
Advising & Leadership: As Director of GSWS Undergraduate Studies and PCAS, Cohen oversees academic advising, curriculum development, and interdisciplinary collaborations. She has pioneered study abroad initiatives that integrate fieldwork with theoretical frameworks.
