Dr Deborah Hamer-Acquaah is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management (HRM) at the Hertfordshire Business School, University of Hertfordshire. She serves as a module leader for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including Managing People, Leadership and Organisations, and Strategic Leadership and HRM. As Deputy Programme Leader for the BA Business Management programme, she oversees academic and administrative responsibilities. She is also the Professional Community Development Lead for the HRM subject department and supervises MA HRM dissertation and DBA students.
Her PhD (awarded March 2025) investigated Fathers on the Frontline: How Involved Fatherhood is Experienced by UK Police Officers, conducted at the University of Essex (2018–2025). Her research focuses on extreme working environments, emergency service work, parenting-work intersections, and emotional labor.
Teaching specialisms include HRM Analytics, Organisational Behaviour, and dissertation supervision. She has published a doctoral thesis exploring the lived experiences of police officers balancing frontline duties with fatherhood, contributing to discussions on work-life balance in high-stress professions.
Collaborations and research networks span studies on caregiving in emergency services and occupational fatherhood, with a focus on qualitative methodologies.
