Deborah Hadwin is a Senior Lecturer and Practice Learning Coordinator at De Montfort University, within the School of Applied Social Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She has been in this role since October 2017 and is responsible for the practice learning components of the BA and MA Social Work programmes.
Her educational background includes a B.Soc.Sc (Hons), MA/Diploma in Social Work, Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and multiple postgraduate diplomas and certificates in social work practice, management, and education. She is currently completing her PhD on unaccompanied young people reaching adulthood.
Deborah's research interests center on social work with unaccompanied minors and young people transitioning into adulthood, particularly those seeking sanctuary. She has deep expertise in children's social work, practice learning, and professional development. Her teaching focuses on practice modules and CPD training for Practice Educators.
She is a registered social worker with Social Work England (SW77008) and a member of the British Association of Social Work, actively contributing to the Asylum, Immigration and Trafficking Group. She previously coordinated the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme and delivered training across various domains of social work practice.
Deborah continues to be actively involved in advancing social work education and practice, particularly in the context of vulnerable migrant youth and care transitions.
