Deborah Green is the Greenberg Associate Professor of Hebrew Language & Literature at the University of Oregon's College of Arts and Sciences. She specializes in the history, literature, and interpretation of the Hebrew Bible, with a focus on Jewish scholarship from the Second Temple through Byzantine periods.

Her research explores rabbinic hermeneutics, particularly analyzing scent symbolism in ancient Jewish texts through works like The Aroma of Righteousness: Scent and Seduction in Rabbinic Life and Literature. She also investigates liminal spaces in biblical narratives and their reinterpretation in Hellenistic and early rabbinic literature, focusing on gendered dimensions of environments like gardens and rooftops. Professor Green co-edited Commemorating the Dead: Texts and Artifacts in Context and Scriptural Exegesis: The Shapes of Culture and the Religious Imagination.
