Deborah Damast is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Dance Education Program at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She has been teaching since 2002, focusing on modern dance technique, pedagogy, creative movement, and choreography. Her roles include Artistic Director of Dance Concerts, Kaleidoscope Dancers, and study abroad programs in Uganda. She actively collaborates with institutions like the Dance Education Laboratory, NYC DOE DELTA leadership, and the Yard, focusing on professional development and curriculum design.
Education: Pursuing an Ed.D. in Dance Education part-time at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
Research interests include community engagement, academic service learning, and early childhood education. She has received grants for innovative projects, including a 2019 Faculty Challenge Grant exploring data and dance literacy and a 2020 Steinhardt Diversity Innovation Grant collaborating with Dancing Earth.
