Debby Damen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and Cognition at Tilburg University's School of Humanities and Digital Sciences. Her research examines cognitive and behavioral aspects of interpersonal communication, with focus on perspective-taking mechanisms, empathy development, and communication barriers in healthcare contexts.
Current investigations explore patient engagement with electronic health records, clinical communication recording practices, and techniques for improving interpersonal accuracy. Methodologies include experimental designs, scoping reviews, and interview-based approaches applied to medical and social contexts.
Dr. Damen contributes to the Academic Collaborative Center for Digital Health & Mental Wellbeing and co-leads projects on wearable eye-tracking technology for analyzing clinical interactions. She teaches courses on interpersonal communication theory and practice.
