Dr. Gijs Holleman is an Assistant Professor at Tilburg University's Department of Cognitive Neuropsychology within the Tilburg School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. His research focuses on human interaction, eye movements, perception, child development, applied cognitive psychology, and the history of psychology. He actively contributes to courses like *Trust in Your Brain* and *Research Skills in Psychology* in the Liberal Arts & Sciences program.
His work emphasizes real-world applications of cognitive psychology, particularly through eye-tracking studies examining social interactions, gaze behavior, and communication dynamics. Notably, he critiques traditional methodologies like 'ecological validity' and explores wearable technology's role in real-world research. Holleman co-leads projects investigating parent-child interactions and aesthetic art experiences using digital wearables.
Recent publications analyze gaze allocation in face-to-face communication, the societal relevance of psychological research, and the methodological challenges in 'real-life' neuroscience. He serves on the editorial board of *De Psycholoog* and engages in public outreach through talks on eye movements and attention.
Current projects include studies on parent-child interaction dynamics using dual eye-tracking and exploring emotional and attentional responses in art appreciation through wearable devices. Holleman advocates for balanced funding between applied and fundamental research in psychology, emphasizing the importance of foundational scientific inquiry.
