Dr. Hopkins is a human geographer and environmental social scientist whose research focuses on just and climate compatible transformations, with particular emphasis on mobility configurations in logistics, aviation, and academic contexts. Her work integrates perspectives from labour geography, mobilities studies, critical logistics, and critical sustainabilities. Her research spans three main themes: logistical mobilities, aviation and the climate crisis, and academic mobilities. She currently leads the UKRI ESRC-funded 'Trucking Lives: Making Space for People in Truck Driving Work' project (2022-2026), which examines the everyday lives of truck drivers to identify ways to improve working conditions and recruit a more diverse workforce. Her research has demonstrated how just-in-time logistics ideologies impact workers' lives, how 'unsafe trucker' narratives justify automation, and how aeromobilities are embedded in academic practice despite climate concerns.
Scientific Recognition:
- 2025-26 US-UK Fulbright Scholar awardee
- Editor-in-Chief of the American Association of Geographers Review of Books journal (2021-2024)
- Editorial board member of Journal of Transport Geography, Applied Mobilities, Tourism Geographies, Journal of Sustainable Tourism, and Global Networks
Dr. Hopkins actively supervises graduate students and teaches across undergraduate and graduate programs at Oxford. She leads the Prelims sustainability course in Human Geography and contributes to the MSc Sustainable Urban Development program. Her outreach extends beyond academia through policy engagement, media contributions, and collaboration with industry partners like Eddie Stobart and the Road Haulage Association through her Trucking Lives project. She sits on advisory boards including the Oxford Climate Society and the Oxford School on Climate Change, and has contributed to urban and national government policy development in both the UK and New Zealand.
