Dr. Debbie Clayton is a Senior Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University within the Department of Applied Psychology, Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences. She serves as Programme Director for the BSc (Hons) Psychology Programme and module leader for Research Skills at the postgraduate level.

Her research focuses on lifestyle psychology, healthy ageing, and nature-based interventions (e.g., gardening, care farming, outdoor activities). She investigates how these activities enhance cognitive functioning, physical health, and psychological well-being through social support, physical activity, and self-esteem.
Key research outputs include: nature-based social prescribing frameworks (2024), CrossFit community dynamics (2016), cardiovascular risk reduction programs (2016), prison-based animal therapy (2015), and allotment gardening benefits (2013, 2011).
