Dr. Debarun Dutta is a Senior Lecturer and Lead for Contact Lens Education at the School of Optometry, Aston University, UK. He holds roles in the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the British & Irish University and College Contact Lens Educators (BUCCLE). His expertise spans contact lens compliance, ocular surface diseases, and antimicrobial strategies. Dr. Dutta has supervised eight PhD students and mentored six postdoctoral researchers. He actively reviews grants for UKRI, MRC, and international bodies.
Education: PhD from the University of New South Wales (2014), focusing on antimicrobial contact lenses. Previous roles include Research Fellow at UNSW and casual research assistant at the Brien Holden Vision Institute.
Research Interests: Contact lens aftercare, dry eye management, meibomian gland dysfunction, and novel ophthalmic devices. His lab combines clinical trials and lab studies.
Notable Awards: Brian Kirby Prize (2015), William C. Ezell Fellowship (2013), and Maki Shiobara Scholarship (2012).
