Deb Niemeier is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering and a Professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Davis. She has dedicated over two decades to integrating mobile source emissions models with transportation planning, emphasizing environmental health disparities and governance in urban policy. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges engineering, sociology, and political science to address climate change outcomes and equity in urban systems.
- Affiliations: Graduate faculty in Computer Science, Transportation Technology and Policy, Education, and Geography; Executive Committee member of the Graduate Geography Group.
Her research focuses on developing accessible, high-accuracy models for public-sector applications, including formal and informal governance processes in urban planning and strategies to mitigate environmental inequalities. Niemeier’s work also explores the intersection of climate change policy and social justice, with collaborations spanning sociology and political science.
- Scientific Awards: AAAS Fellow (2014), Guggenheim Fellow (2015), and National Academy of Engineering (2017).
She is also recognized as the architect of the #MeTooSTEM movement, advocating for equity and systemic reform in academic and professional environments.
