Deanna Walker is a Senior Lecturer of Songwriting at the Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University, where she has been a faculty member since 1998. She is an accomplished composer, pianist, songwriter, and producer with national and international recognition in music creation and education.

Her research and creative interests focus on songwriting, composition, music education, and commercial music. She integrates real-world music industry experience into her teaching, mentoring students who have become hit songwriters in pop and country music. Her pedagogical approach is enriched by her extensive performance, publishing, and collaborative work across continents.
Walker has led the Blair Hit Songwriter Series, bringing in major industry songwriters and fostering a creative environment for emerging talent. Her students, including Michael Pollack, Malibu Babie (Lo Miller), Jon Nite, and Jesse Rice, have achieved significant success in the music industry.
She has served in leadership roles in professional organizations, notably as National Chair of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Composer Commissioning Program (2003–2005), and has mentored students who have won national, division, state, and local MTNA Composition Contests.
Her commissioned work Family Plot in Four Scenes was performed at the CMS International Conference in Costa Rica (2003). She co-authored the Composition Books, Levels 1–3 for Alfred’s Basic Piano Library and has conducted piano clinics and songwriting workshops across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. Her songs have been recorded by artists such as Kenny Rogers and Goldfish, and featured on American Idol and major network television.
Walker has had multiple publishing deals and collaborates extensively with European artists and producers. Her co-written songs have surpassed 50 million streams on Spotify. She is actively engaged in music education and industry outreach, bridging academic training with professional music creation.
