Dean Spade is a Professor at Seattle University School of Law, where he teaches courses such as Administrative Law, Poverty Law, Gender and Law, Policing and Imprisonment, and Law and Social Movements. He previously served as a Pozen Visiting Professor at the University of Chicago Law School and was a Williams Institute Law Teaching Fellow at both UCLA Law School and Harvard Law School.
His research focuses on transformative justice, trans and gender non-conforming rights, and the intersection of law with social movements. He is the author of Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics and the Limits of Law, a seminal work in critical legal studies.
