Devon Carbado is the Elihu Root Professor of Law at New York University School of Law. He holds a BA in History from UCLA and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. His expertise spans Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, and Race and the Law, with a focus on systemic racism within legal frameworks. He has held administrative roles such as Vice Dean and Associate Provost, and has been affiliated with institutions like the American Bar Foundation and Harvard Law School through visiting fellowships.
Professor Carbado’s research addresses racial justice, police reform, and legal inequality. His notable works include Black Lives, Police Power, and the Fourth Amendment and Acting White? Rethinking Race in “Post-Racial” America. He has received prestigious awards including the Fletcher Foundation Fellowship and Lambda Literary Awards.
