Anna Lvovsky is a Professor of Law and Affiliate Professor of History at Harvard University, affiliated with Harvard Law School. She specializes in American legal history, the history of policing, evidence law, and criminal law. Her research examines the legal and cultural dimensions of policing, judicial uses of professional knowledge, and the regulation of gender and sexuality. She holds a J.D. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, along with a B.A. from Yale University.
Her landmark book Vice Patrol: Cops, Courts, and the Struggle over Urban Gay Life before Stonewall won the 2022 Lambda Literary Award and explores mid-20th century policing strategies targeting LGBTQ+ communities. Her articles appear in top journals like the Yale Law Journal and Harvard Law Review.
She previously clerked for federal appellate judges and served as an Academic Fellow at Columbia Law School. Her work bridges legal history, queer studies, and criminal justice reform, with a focus on ethical policing and marginalized communities.
