His research has been supported by major funding bodies including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Professor McMillan is a member of the Centre for Health and Population Sciences (CHaPS) at the University of York and has been involved in significant media coverage, including an ITV News interview about the groundbreaking BABY PANDA study, which explores improving diagnosis and treatment rates for perinatal depression.
