Dean Lacy is a Professor of Government at Dartmouth College and currently serves as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Director of the Program in Politics and Law. He holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia, M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University. His research focuses on American and comparative politics, emphasizing elections, public opinion, and lawmaking, with methodologies including experiments, quantitative analysis, survey research, and game theory. He teaches courses on the American political system, campaigns, political behavior, and statistical methods.
Notable research areas include economic sanctions in international relations, voter decision-making under divided government, and the interplay between federal spending and electoral outcomes. His international activities include a Distinguished Visiting Professorship at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (2010–2012) and election observation roles. His work bridges theoretical models with empirical analysis, addressing topics like affective forecasting errors in elections and the role of identity in voting behavior.
