Dean Barker is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Örebro University, Sweden. His work focuses on student learning in physical education, curriculum development, and migration-related educational challenges. He is an editorial board member for journals such as 'Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy' and 'Sport, Education and Society,' and serves on the board of the European Association for the Sociology of Sport. His research explores topics like movement pedagogy, assessment practices, and teacher professional identity.
Teaching responsibilities include lecturing and examining PETE (Physical Education Teacher Education) courses at bachelor's, advanced, and research levels. He has authored/co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles and contributes to international conferences. His current research projects include implementing the 'Practising Model' in physical education and investigating holistic assessment methods.
Key research themes include movement capability, nonlinear learning, and the sociocultural dimensions of physical education.
