Dazhong Xu, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, New York Medical College (NYMC), where he joined in 2014 as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Head of the Flow Cytometry Core Laboratory. He served as Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Pathology from 2017 to 2021 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology in 2020. Prior to NYMC, he worked at New York University School of Medicine as a Research Assistant Professor and at Tufts University School of Medicine as an Instructor of Medicine.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, Wright State University
- M.S. in Zoology, University of Florida
- B.S. in Biology, Nanjing University
- Postdoctoral Training: Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical Center
Dr. Xu's research focuses on the molecular and cellular biology of cancer, particularly lung carcinogenesis caused by environmental and occupational carcinogens. His lab aims to identify novel molecular mechanisms driving cancer initiation and progression using advanced tools like mouse models and genetic engineering, with applications in DNA damage response and chromatin modifications.
His recent publications highlight studies on hexavalent chromium toxicity (2024), DNA polymerase regulation (2025), and adapter protein dynamics (2021-2023). These works span environmental toxicology, genomic instability, and immunomodulation.
Honors & Awards:
- 2005 Jay N. Cohn New Investigator Award in Basic Science
- 2005 & 2004 Travel Awards, The Heart Failure Society of America
- 2002 National Research Service Award Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr. Xu teaches Selected Topics in Cancer Biology and Introduction to Pathology at NYMC. His collaborations include researchers from Tufts, Harvard, and the Heart Failure Society of America, with grants emphasizing environmental carcinogenesis and cellular stress responses.
