Davis Knittle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Delaware, joining in January 2023. His work bridges literary studies, urban history, and environmental humanities. Previously, he held the HMEI/Princeton Mellon Fellowship in Architecture, Urbanism, and the Environment at Princeton University.
His research focuses on how writers engaged with urban planning tools to resist predatory redevelopment in New York City from 1950 to 2020. Key publications include articles in PMLA, ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, and Gotham: A Blog for Scholars of New York City History.
- Education: Prior to UD, he conducted postdoctoral work at Princeton University.
- Research Interests: Urban literary discourse, environmental justice in cities, spatial narratives, and the intersection of culture and urban policy.
His current book project examines the role of literature in urban resistance movements, blending textual analysis with historical urban studies methodologies.
