Margaret D. Stetz is the Mae and Robert Carter Professor of Women's Studies and Professor of Humanities at the University of Delaware, with secondary appointments in English and affiliations with Material Culture Studies and the Center for the Study and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence. She holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Queens College, CUNY; an M.A. from the University of Sussex, UK; and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Prior to UD, she taught at the University of Virginia and Georgetown University.
Her research spans Victorian art and print culture, neo-Victorian literature, military sexual slavery, and fashion studies. She has curated exhibitions such as Max Beerbohm: The Price of Celebrity and Aubrey Beardsley, 150 Years Young, and serves on editorial boards for journals like Tulsa Studies in Women's Literature and Victorian Literature and Culture. Notable awards include the Howard Mumford Jones Prize for her Harvard dissertation.
- Key Projects: Recent lectures include talks on Oscar Wilde, Max Beerbohm, and the 'Comfort Women' issue. She co-curated major art exhibitions and advises the new Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Literary Studies at the University of Essex.
