Davide Rivalta is a Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at Ababo, teaching Sculpture I (1st year) and Sculpture II (2nd year) as core characterizing courses (12 CFA credits each). His artistic career spans sculpture, drawing, and painting, with permanent installations in Ravenna, Rome, Florence, Neuchâtel, and Mougins, alongside participation in the Aichi Triennale (2010) and Milan Triennale (2019).
His research focuses on the interplay between contemporary sculpture and spatial context, emphasizing technical mastery and conceptual depth. Key interests include:
- Materiality in modern sculpture
- Integration of drawing/painting in three-dimensional practice
- Installation dynamics and viewer-space relationships
- Historical continuity in sculptural language
- Artistic identity development through portfolio creation
Professor Rivalta employs laboratory-based instruction with individual critiques and student presentations. Sculpture I builds foundational portfolios through research and technical exercises, while Sculpture II prepares students for thesis projects via critical analysis of works-in-progress. His curriculum draws from seminal texts by Arturo Martini, Luciano Fabro, and Hal Foster, prioritizing hands-on experimentation over theoretical abstraction.
