David Wilkinson is the founding Executive Director of the Tobin Center for Economic Policy at Yale University and holds an adjunct appointment as Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Medicine’s Child Study Center. He is also a Senior Fellow at Yale’s Institution for Social and Policy Studies. A Yale Law School graduate (2006), Wilkinson has extensive experience in policy roles, including serving as Connecticut’s Chief Performance Officer and Commissioner of Early Childhood, and as Director of the White House Office of Social Innovation under President Obama.
His research and professional focus centers on data-driven policymaking, evidence-based governance, and early childhood development. Key affiliations include the Tobin Center, Child Study Center, and collaborations with economists and public health experts such as Aiden Lee, Inci Yildirim, and Walter Gilliam.
Wilkinson’s recent work has addressed pandemic-related challenges in childcare sectors, including vaccine uptake, nonpharmaceutical interventions, and policy impacts on mental health. His interdisciplinary approach bridges social science, public health, and economics to address systemic issues in education, healthcare, and economic equity. He is a frequent collaborator with Yale’s biomedical and policy research teams, contributing to translational studies with direct policy relevance.
