David Weiss is a PhD student in Geography at the University of Kansas and an Assistant Researcher at the Kansas Biological Survey's Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) Program and Center for Ecological Research. His work focuses on remote sensing, GIS, and environmental modeling for ecological and hydrological applications. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies (Macalester College, 2017) and an M.A. in Sustainability (Wake Forest University, 2020).

Research interests include land-use change, flood modeling, water quality, wetlands, agriculture, and geospatial technologies for sustainability. He also explores light pollution, ecohydrology, and environmental remediation. David taught lab courses such as Intermediate GIS (Geography 558), Cartography (Geography 311), and Introductory Physical Geography (Geography 105) from 2022 to 2024.
His recent work involves the FLDPLN model for continental-scale flood forecasting, leveraging remote sensing and GIS tools. He has prior experience in Clean Water Act permitting with the Army Corps of Engineers and energy efficiency design reviews for large buildings.
