Ruusa Magano David is a Lecturer in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at the Department of Geography, Geology, and Environment within the School of Life Sciences at Keele University. She holds a Degree in Information Technology (IT) from the Namibia University of Science and Technology, a Master's in Geographical Information Technology from Istanbul Technical University, and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from Durham University. Her research focuses on applying GIS, Remote Sensing, and spatial analysis to monitor land-cover change, forest loss, and biomass assessment in dryland forests.
Previously, she worked as a Teaching Fellow in Physical Geography and Remote Sensing at Durham University, and as a researcher on NASA projects at Wisconsin-Madison University and EU-funded projects at Istanbul Technical University. She publishes policy briefs for UK agencies like DEFRA and FSA, emphasizing evidence-based conservation decision-making.
Teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses in GIS, Remote Sensing, and Geostatistics. Research interests span tropical forest dynamics, spatial technologies, and environmental epidemiology. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Key publications explore biomass estimation in Botswana, tropical dryland forest monitoring in Southern Africa, and spatio-temporal analysis of environmental impacts in Istanbul. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy applications, emphasizing sustainable resource management.
