Monika Moskal is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington, affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences. Her work focuses on using remote sensing and GIS to analyze large-scale landscape changes, including wetland and forest dynamics linked to climate and socio-economic factors. As Director of the Precision Forestry Cooperative, she examines urban, managed, and natural forest structures and disturbances (e.g., fire) to guide sustainable management and policy.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Remote Sensing and GIS, University of Kansas
- M.A. in Remote Sensing, University of Calgary
- B.A. in Environmental Sciences, University of Waterloo
Her research spans the western U.S. and Canada, supported by funding from the NSF and NASA. She collaborates with students to identify indicators for sustainable forestry practices and policy.
Awards/Grants:
- Funding from NSF and NASA for research projects
Monika’s work bridges technical methods (remote sensing/GIS) with applied environmental challenges, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to resource management.
